Kingsbridge and Spuyten Duyvil sit at the southern end of the Riverdale ridge, where the Harlem River meets the Hudson. The streets are steep, and most homes here are apartments: prewar and postwar co-op buildings along Palisade Avenue, Johnson Avenue and the Henry Hudson Parkway, with rental buildings and some one- and two-family houses on the side streets down toward Broadway.

The contractors below have a business address in this part of the Bronx, according to the city’s license records. Each one held an active NYC Home Improvement Contractor license when we checked in October 2026, and the license number is on each listing.

Plumbers and electricians in Kingsbridge and Spuyten Duyvil

Renovating an apartment here

Because so much of the housing is co-op apartments, most renovations in Kingsbridge and Spuyten Duyvil start with the building, not the contractor. Before work begins, the board or managing agent will usually ask for an alteration agreement, a scope of work, and a certificate of insurance naming the building. Our guide to co-op alteration agreements explains the usual steps.

A contractor who works locally will often know the managing agents and the paperwork they expect, which can save weeks. It is still worth asking any contractor how many co-op jobs they have done in the last year and whether they can produce an insurance certificate in your building’s exact wording.

Hilly streets and older buildings also matter for practical reasons. Ask how materials will get in (some buildings have no service elevator), where debris will go, and whether the job will need a permit from the Department of Buildings. Bathroom and kitchen jobs that move plumbing usually do; painting and like-for-like replacements usually do not.
